Introducing Skylar Beamon

Skylar recently took first place in the middle school category for a dazzling performance at the 1st Annual LOVE of Music Benefit Concert on March 24th , 2012. The vocal talent show which was held at Kingwood High School included 12 finalist chosen from 120 students from Humble ISD. Four contestants represented each of three categories: elementary, middle and high school division. Skylar received a scholarship to the prestigious Page Parkes Acting and Modeling Studio of Houston, studio time at Sugar Hill Recording Studio, and a beautiful trophy.
Truth be told, many people aspire to be singers, dancers, and actors,  and no doubt there are countless schools, coaches and instructors willing to teach those who feel so artistically inspired. But, true talent is almost instinctive, and can’t be taught. It emerges from the gifted with as much ease as a deep breath. Sometimes a toddler will just sit at a piano and become one with the instrument or a blind child can hear a singer and vocally return every note with no knowledge of the intricacies of musical theory.
Such is the case for Houston’s own, Skylar Beamon. At the tender age of twelve her talent for singing and piano mastery for exceed her age. In addition to the performing, Skylar is a prolific songwriter, and aspiring producer. She began writing songs at age nine and has already amassed a catalog of wonderful songs.
A mix of two cultures, Samoan and African American, this soulfully melodic young diva sings with the experience of an old soul. She's as beautiful as she is talented. In the beginning shyness muzzled that powerhouse voice and kept her talented hidden away from us mere mortals. But now, like a seasoned veteran, Skylar faces down a crowd with no fear and her fingers never tremble with the usual nerves. An alter ego takes over when she sits at the piano, and begins to talk just before singing. You clearly hear the voice of calm wisdom emerge from her pre-teen body.
She may have inherited some of her musical prowess from her mother, Alex who was many years ago a member of a popular girl group in her native country, New Zealand. While her mother has been instrumental in guiding and helping her to hone her vocal skills, her dad, Clevon, also has a great ear for music and currently serves as her personal roadie and stage manager. Even though her parents wish for her to succeed, Skylar is clearly in the driver’s seat.
An honor student, Skylar is kept to a strict regimen of homework, chores and practice, but she sneaks in a little time to play with her pet rabbit when she can. She also has to fit piano and voice lessons into her weekly schedule and has in recent past studied under the tutelage of master voice coach, Tom McKinney, who’s trained the likes of Solange Knowles (Beyonce’s sister), Demi Lavato and Ray J.
Skylar is driven. She has the talent and tenacity to make it in this sometimes daunting business. We expect to see great things from her in the months and years to come.
